Strike Zones

Don't normally complain about the umpires because I know it's not easy to make "judgement calls" but there seems to be a consistency in a call that's annoying me to no end.

A strike zone does not move with a batters position in the box! If a batter is at the very front of the box, almost on the line, the strike zone does not move forward to accomdate their stance! Calling a ball deep, when it lands a foot behind the plate, because it crossed higher on the batter from a stance up in the box is not an accurate call.

I called someone out on strikes because of this. They thought that since the ball went over their shoulder it was a ball i said well for it to cross under your shoulder it would hit in front of the plate...do you want me to call that pitch a strike?

Thank you, that's exactly it! Some of them are so far up that it would have to land in front of the plate or on the plate to be "in their" strike zone and it doesn't work that way.

You are correct in that the strike zone does not move with the batter. The rule states the area over the plate lower than batter’s highest shoulder or higher than the bottom of the front knee. Sounds easy enough to call, and I’m not saying it’s not, but I would suggest calling a game behind the plate before you criticize.

Actually, I have called games when I was younger so I don't really ever say anything because I know how it is. But it seems that more and more that this has become a consistent thing that's getting called inaccurately.

There is no such thing as ball deep either.It's either high at the plate going over the front shoulder.
