Is it smarter to buy a whole loadout of decent skins or save everything for one expensive knife?

Depends what you care about more. Having skins for every weapon you use or one flashy item you see constantly

I went with the full loadout approach first because you actually use rifles and pistols way more than knives in matches. Got decent AK, M4, AWP and USP skins before even thinking about a knife. Check https://dmarket.com/cs2-wiki/ for budget options that look good but don't cost much. Skins like AK Redline or AWP Worm God are affordable and still look clean in game. Once you have weapons covered then save for a knife if you want. Knives are cool but you only see them when running around or inspecting. Meanwhile your rifle is visible the entire round. Both approaches work, just depends if you prefer variety or one standout item
