This past week has been very busy for us on Honeoye Lake. The algae bloom is in full swing and the water is green. Bass are biting very good, but you have to make the proper presentation. We had Keith and Denise for our dinner and evening package on Tuesday. The fish were not real aggressive, but Keith and Denise managed to put a bunch in the boat. Fishing Texas rigged brush hogs was new to both of them and they lost several bass in the weeds and missed a few bites, but they had a fun time.
Thursday, both Melody and I had half day trips scheduled. Melody's client was Stuart from NY, NY. She took him to the north end of Honeoye where they started their drift accross the lake. He wanted her to fish, so she caught a couple of bass and he asked what the bite felt like. She told him that it wasn't really a bite, but more of a resistance when you picked up your bait. He caught on very quickly and manged to literlly load the boat all morning. He is a very experienced angler and this was his first bass fishing trip.
I followed Melody with my group consisting of Chris, Chris and Stephanie. We started at the north end and began catching a few bass. Dad started out doing the best, but young Chris soon caught on to what the bite felt like, and I think he may have ended the day as the top angler in my boat. Great folks and lots of fun to spend the day with. The bass were caught on Texas rigged brush hogs.
Sunday morning I was up early to clean the boat, rig the poles and get everything set for Doug and Ty. Doug had told me in advance that Ty was very skilled and loved to fish. We went to the north and the fishing started quite slow. I made some small adjustments to the brush hogs and the battle was on. Doug and Ty matched each other, fish for fish, ending the morning with 18 bass each with a nice 18 inch bonus walleye. Doug told me that Ty will be bragging to his older brother how many fish he caught, and Zach will be with them on the next trip. I wished them well and a safe trip back to Richmond, VA.
Be safe, wear your life vest. Good fishing.
