Canandaigua Lake’s access is limited due to construction at the main ramp on the north end. You can launch at Woodville (Rte. 21) on the southwest end or the West River launch on 245 heading east out of Naples. Smallmouth will be on the move to shallow water and a mix of spinnerbaits, jerk baits or lipless crank baits should provide some exciting action.
Sodus Bay has been very good and we did well while fishing a tournament using green pumpkin baby brush hogs made by Zoom baits. Fish from 6 to 10 feet of water until you locate the bass. Weeds are not as thick as in the past, so the fish are scattered.
Conesus Lake has been producing some nice fish at the Tuesday night tournaments. With the Conesus launch being open, it will be busy due to the closure of the Honeoye and Canandaigua ramps. Water cooling down will bring the smallies shallower and turn them on for the fall feeding frenzy before ice forms. This is topnotch action.
Honeoye Lake has been good as usual. The algae bloom gets strong then appears to clear up only to return. Water temperatures have dropped to the mid 60’s and on nice days, returns to 70. Fish activity will vary with the water color, and if it is clear, use watermelon and when the bloom is on, switch to darker colors like black or green pumpkin. Wacky rigs will work as well as Texas rigs. Smaller fish are shallow and the larger bass have been in the 10-12 foot depth. Access the lake at Sandy Bottom on the northwest end of the lake.
Wear your life vest and good fishing
