Fished Honeoye on June 3rd with Melody and it rained on and off all morning. The bite was very good and the bass were active. We caught several 15 to 16 inch fish and then managed to boat a 6.5 lb. largemouth.
Fished with Mike from the Syracuse area on Honeoye Thursday the 14th and it was slow for this lake. As the day progressed, so did the action and I managed a 4 and 5 lber. on back to back casts. The size of the bass most of the day was very good.
Friday, Mike and I went to fish Conesus Lake. We were looking for a mixed bag of pike, sm bass, and lm bass. Lost one pike about 8 lbs. next to the boat, no sm bass, but we did very well on the largemouth. We had several in the 4 to 5 lb. range along with some 3lb. fish. I don't believe we had any shorts.
Saturday evening a local couple with a cottage on Honeoye wanted to learn how to catch some fish. We started at the north end, then traveled to the southern half of the lake. As the evening progressed they caught more and more bass. It was a combination of them learning and the activity level of the bass increasing. The final tally was around 30 largemouth.
Monday a group from Rochester, here on vacation, fished with me. It was very windy all night and had not subsided in the morning, so we ran to the south end of Honeoye. It took them a while to learn how to fish a wacky rig, but soon all were catching fish. We ended the half day with 29 bass and 1 pickerel.
Most of the fish were caught on Bass Pro Stikos or Zoom trick worms. Baby brush hogs, super hogs, and some 4 inch worms also took a few. Standard colors, watermelon seed and greenpumpkin with an occasional 4inch Texas rigged worm in black or motoroil.
