Conesus Lake
Conesus is fishing good and the water is cooling. Pike have been active on spinnerbaits, spoons and crankbaits. Largemouth bass are active, and at the final Tuesday night tournament, it took over 10 lbs. for a three fish limit to win. Soon, the big smallmouth bass will move up, and the brown fish will be trying to rip the rod right out of your hand. Pick some nice Fall days and get in on the action. Remember, these are older fish, so practice catch and release.
Honeoye Lake
Honeoye still has the algae bloom, and the fish don’t know what is happening. The bass are on the thin side, and I believe they are having a problem feeding by sight. Throw lures that make noise or shake your bait. When you shake a bait, just make it move in place so the fish can locate it. Darker colors seem to be working best. Water temperatures are in the very low 60’s.
Sodus Bay
Sodus Bay has very low water levels for this time of year. The town ramp is closed, and I launched at the USCG station. We fished several areas of the bay and managed 12-15 largemouth bass over a four hour period. The fish were caught using a mix of plastic baits and surface lures. Use caution if you fish the bay as some areas that normally have good water depth are now very low. It appears, according to NOAA, that Ontario water levels reached the historic November drawdown on or about the third week of September. This was a comparison between 2011 and 2012 levels.
