I'm doing solo mornings on a station that could probably be best described as Hot AC, so a little bit older of an audience than I've done at Top 40 stations. But, hey, aren't we all a little bit older of an audience these days? Because it's solo I'm going to have to rely on a lot self-contained bits and callers to sort of be my co-host. The last guy in this slot didn't do much but rip and read from show prep services, so I'm building a show from the ground up, training the audience that this is an interactive show now. It's already going surprisingly well. It's weird being in a position of complete freedom. I can do anything I want and I don't have to run it past anyone, so where do I start? As I'm getting more comfortable with new equipment, environment, being by myself that's coming easier and the creative juices are starting to flow again. The people in the building seem impressed with the work I've already put into the show and it's already showing in the ratings. (Pittsburgh is a big enough market (29) to have Portable People Meters instead of written diaries. So people wear little pager type things that pick up which radio station they're listening to and we get ratings every month instead of biannually or quarterly like other markets).
What am I doing with my unbridled creative freedom? I did one of those Yule Log style videos. https://www.facebook.com/watch/?v=781277562390409
This is the view from the studios downtown.
