Again the NMMRA Traditional Non-Winged Sprints and the X-Mods held up the show. Both of these division have presented near or over 20 cars each to put on a great racing program.
The Sprints had 23 car that put on three heats. Winner of heat#1 24C of Cody Dons, with #19 of Ronnie Smith and # 56 of Dillon Tanner putting on a clinic how to go fast and clean. Great show guys. The second heat was won by #2 of Stephen Nix who came in late in the season to show that he still has the stuff. Second in heat two was #22 Bo Baker, followed by #4x of Cody Mansfield. Finally heat three showed your 2013. NMMRA champion #7 Jesse Baker best #45 of Jason Grady and #6 of Michael Marfia.
The Sprint main was a sight to behold. Twenty two non winged sprints took the green and the battle was on. You could say that the youngsters Cody Mansfield and Dillon Tanner showed the older crowd what they can expect next year. Cody Mansfield #4x took the top finish with #7 Jesse Baker within striking distance, and #62 of Bill Mitchell finding the speed he had at the first of the season and challenging Jesse, given a couple more laps it could have gotten very interesting for Jesse and Cody. I can say without fear of contradiction the the NMMRA Sprints under the leadership of Rusty Martinelli put on some of the best sprint racing in Albuquerque in a long time.
Now, the X-Mods had a slightly smaller field this week due to a competing show for X-Mods in Grants. We still had enough cars for two heats. Winner of heat #1 was #63 of Justin Webber, he started on the pole and never saw any real threats. Second place to #62 of Tom Melloy, with #0 of J.R. Bonestell rounding out that heat. In the second heat the winner was #00 of Steve Bonesteel with #25 of Derek Dietz second and the new car of Dee Yates #15 showing some steam and finishing third. The X-Mod main had the 2013 points leader #0 of J.R. Bonesteel and season runner up #62 of Tom Melloy start on the front row. Any guesses who won? Yes it was J.R., with s respectable second going to #54 of Tim Hooper, and #62 Melloy third. This talented group of X-Mod drivers gave the fans their moneys worth every week, cant wait for next year.
The Street Stocks #3 Mario Truden Sr and #53 of the youngster R.C. Combs fighting it out in both heat and main, with Truden Sr taking the heat and R.C. taking the main. Great show.
The Mini Sprints points season was over last week with #17 Of Jacob Johnston taking that crown. They ran this week and Jacob won their main. The Mini-Sprints will join the NMMRA non wing, and 305 Winged Sprints in a final show at Napa Speedway on Oct. 5. Be sure to come out and see this show.
Thanks racers and fans for a great year.
God Bless
Bob and Ray Ingram
