In the IMCA modified feature: Aaron Spangler took the early lead with Regan Tafoya and Zane Devilbiss chasing him. On lap 11, Regan Tafoya went to the front and then was passed on the low side by Devilbiss. Racing down the backstretch all three cars got together with Spangler climbing the wall and ending up against the wall in turn 3. Spangler was out with Tafoya soon following him to the pits. Although Zane Devilbiss' car was minus the right side sheet metal, he went on to win this feature over his brother Shane Devilbiss. In 3rd was Jody Cornell followed by Wayne Soares and Julian Garcia,Sr. Sixth on back were: Jeremy Farley, Allen Bradley, Derek Rhoden, Regan Tafoya, Aaron Spangler, Charlie Felker and Ryan Spangler.
In the Sport modifieds, the green flag was dropped five times before this bunch could complete 2 laps. This race saw several cars challenging for the lead with Clint Cressler leading 6 laps. Killian Carey was in front for a few before Julie Boettler battled back from an early spin to take the lead. On lap 16, Ryan Henley came roaring by on the outside and never looked back as he logged his first win of 2014. Boettler was 2nd with Rex Higgins next. In 4th was Killian Carey followed by his dad Brian Carey in 5th. Ryan's dad, RL Henley, finished 6th on his birthday with 7th on back in this order: Darrell Cordary, Clint Cressler, Ron Watson, Luke McCormick, Dillon Terry, Tom Dutton, Glenn Spangler, Jordan Eddelman, Juanita Faddis and Joey Klemish.
The IMCA stock car feature had Ron Brewer making a great run as he was in front for the first 6 laps before Kenny Hendershot flew by on lap 7 to notch his first win at Aztec Speedway this year. In 2nd was Frankie Hendershot after he passed Brewer on lap 16. Brewer hung in for 3rd. Fourth went to Race Fisher, and 5th was Skyler Heath. Sixth on back were: Richard Trujillo, Michael Farley, Traci Jennings, Larry Bradley, Jerald Wright, Travis Southerlin, Steffan Carey, Josh Turnbull, and Jim Fisher. I'm starting to wonder if anyone can beat the Hendershots here or in Cortez. A bounty might be in the making.
In the Hobby stocks, Leon Shim took the win with Randy Dorsett next. In 3rd was Dave Allison and Paul Dorsett was 4th. The rest were awarded 5th and down. Luke Klemm, Jordan Hockenhull, Kelly Klem and Freddie Brooks. Brooks spun early and popped a tire.
In the sport compacts, Josh Smith took the win with Camron Spangler in 2nd. Third went to Michael Cody followed by Ranai Toler in 4th and Austin Maxwell 5th.
This night of racing was wilder and crazier than I made it sound in print. The fans got their monies worth if they wanted spins and crashes.
