Yes, the track was rough, but that did not keep the drivers from putting on a fast and wild show.
David Dykes rolled his #55 Sprint car in his heat in the middle of turn 3-4 trying to avoid a fellow driver that spun. Luckily no injury and David and crew were able to get car back in action for the main.
The Sprint car main was fast with #45 of Jason Grady starting on the pole and staying in front. The #52NM driven by Santa Fe driver Steve Nix at the wheel won his heat and gave Mr Grady a run for the money. #62 of Bill Mitchell finished second and Nix for third. What a difference in drying styles, Mitchell was throwing his sprinter sideways just past the flag stand and Nix just motoring around the corners with almost no drift, both fast and put on a great show. Last years champ #7 Jesse Baker was all over the top three but just could not get past Nix. Other hard charges in the main were #4x of Cody Mansfield and his brother #57 Austin Mansfield.
The A Mod main was just odd. There were 4 true A Mods and 2 X Mods starting. #71 of Derel Meek was fast and lead a few laps until #3J Josh Cain made the final pass. The # 3 of Kenneth Payne and #29 of Mike Oneal came together at the flag stand with Oneal taking out the last 5 feet of catch fence. On the restart Meek blew his engine coming to the flag and dropped all his oil 3/4 way around the track. That caused a red flag and the Motivia crew decided to bring out the grader and scrape the track. Even with this delay the races were over at about 9:30. Weird finish, with the only two cars left being Cain and Melly, Cain showed great sportsmanship and took the hi line and spun the tires all the way around alowing Tom Melloy to keep him side by side. OK, Cain did win, but my hat is off to him for helping put on a show for the fans.
The Street Stocks were the R C Combs and Cheyanna Yates show again. With #53 Combs and #15 Yates placing one and two in the heat. Now the main was a different story. About halfway into it, Ms Yates suffered engine problems and was forced to vacate the track, leaving Dan Gross Sr. to keep R C honest. Dan did a good job running side by side with the young Mr Combs, with R C taking the win. I think R C has won every race he has entered this year.
The Mini Sprints had a smallish field due to several of their young drivers graduating from High School. They did put on two heats with #2 of David Gay taking the first one and @07 Of Patrick Hurtado taking the second heat. In the main it was all Hurtado with #17 Jabob Johnston hot on his tail but just couldnt seem to get the power to the ground to make the pass.
The Cruisers had a off week so no Cruisers ran.
The Hornets had a small field with #97B of Justin Morgan taking both the heat and the Main.
Even with the blown engines, crashes into the catch fence and roll overs its a better night than a movie with Tom Cruise hanging from a wire. Motivia will not be running next week due to Holiday, but will return 5/31/14 come on out and see whats going on at the dirt track.
God bless
Bob and Ray Ingram
