A very warm night on the Dirt Track @ Motiva Motor Speedway saw action in 6 divisions, although the car count was down a bit. With 2 weeks off for mid-season break there should be plenty of cars back in action when racing resumes on the Dirt Track @ Motiva Motor Speedway July 19th.
The X-Mods had the best car count with 18 cars in the pits to run 3 heats and a main. Heat #1 had the #1 of Mychal Lucero take the win with the #95 of Andrew Fowner close behind for 2nd and the #7 of Shorty Steven Bertetto taking 3rd ( Bertetto is only about 6'10” ). Heat #2 saw the #0 of J.R. Bonesteel coming home 1st with the #29 of Mike O'Neal a close 2nd and the #34S of Donald Scott hot on their heels for 3rd. Heat #3 was all Justin Weber in his beautiful yellow #63 taking the win in front of the #54 of Perry Held with the #73 of Gerald Haste coming home in 3rd spot. The Main-Event got off to a rough start and got worse from there. There was a complete restart on the first try and on the second try the drivers tried to get 4 or 5 wide down the backstretch and scraped 4 cars off on the wall. Going out on the first lap were the #62 of Tom Melloy, #54D Shawn Dutcher, #95 Andrew Fowner and the #73 of Gerald Haste. When the race resumed there was quite a bit more beating and banging that eliminated all but 7 of the original 17 cars that took the green flag. Taking the win was the #0 of J.R. Bonesteel, taking 2nd was #63 Justin Weber and filling out the podium was the #1 of Mychal Lucero. These 3 drivers had a race long duel in between the caution flags.
The 305 Winged Sprints had only 3 cars to do battle. In the heat race the #12 of Jerry Mosher and the #77 of Colt Treharn had a race long battle for the win with Mosher getting the upper hand at the end with the #99 of Chuck Jackson in 3rd. The Main Event was very similar to the heat race with Mosher and Treharn battling side by side most of the race with the #77 of Colt Treharn coming out on top with #12 Mosher close behind. Unfortunately the #99 of Chuck Jackson had a major meeting with an implement tire in turn 2 that wiped out the front end of his car ending his night early.
The Winged Mini-Sprints had 10 cars to run 2 heat races and a main event on the small infield track. ( Roomer has it that the Mini-s may run on the big track next time out ), and boy do these little pocket rockets fly on the bigger track. Heat #1 had the usual suspect in the #MR07 Patrick Hurtado take off from his pole position start and lead the entire way with the #4S of Spencer Hill taking 2nd and the #22 of Robert Turner taking 3rd. Heat #2 saw the #14 of Alex Robinson have a race long duel with the #27 of another of the Turner clan, Randy. At the checkered it was Robinson taking the win with Turner 2nd and the #69X of T.J. McHugh in 3rd. The main event saw all 10 cars on hand make the call as there were no crashes or mechanical failures in the heats. Once again the #MR07 of Patrick Hurtado jumped out to a big lead early and never looked back as he took yet another win. Chasing Hurtado to the checkered flag was the 4S of Spencer Hill and the #22 of Robert Turner who had their own battle the entire race.
The Street Stocks also had a short field of only 4 cars but they managed to put on 2 very entertaining races. The heat race saw an early race battle between the #53 of R.C. Combs and the #15 of Cheyenna Yates until the motor let go on Yates car ending her night. When the racing resumed the #99 of Joel Duke kept young Combs in his sights and had to fight off a hard challenge from youngster Casey Gossett in the #11X. On the white flag lap coming out of turn 4 Gossett tried a wee bit too hard and made VERY hard contact with the retaining wall bringing his night to a very sudden end, leaving only Combs and Duke to finish the race. With both Yates and Gossett out there was only Combs and Duke to run the main event. These two drivers put on a whale of a show running side by side the entire race with Combs taking the high goove an Duke in the low groove. Never more that a car length apart until the very end Combs in the #53 pulled out to a few car length victory over the #99 of Duke.
The Cruisers had 10 cars to run their 2 heats and a main event. Heat #11 saw the #11 of Stanley N.M. Driver Leo Dennison take the win in front of the Petty Blue #43 of Art Hurley with the #76 of Madison Conrad coming home in 3rd. Heat #2 had a good battle among the top 3 with the #33 of Devon Gates taking the win with the #26 of Cody Sanchez a very close 2nd and the #50 of the little Mustang of Todd Hendrixson a very respectable 3rd. The main event had all 10 cars on hand make the call as there were not wrecks or mechanical problems in the heats. There were 5 or 6 cars fighting for the top spot early in the race when the #33 of Gates broke while leading sending him to the pits. The #58 of Frank Payne assumed the lead and held off some serious challenges from 3 or 4 drivers. In the end Payne took the win in front of the #50 of Hendrixon with the #00 of Dennison coming back from an earlier spin to take 3rd position.
The Hornets had 6 cars for a single heat and main event. The heat race had the #99 of Lena Duke take the win over the #97B of Justin Morgan with the #06 of Jolene Fowner taking 3rd. The main event saw the #97B of Justin Morgan take another win ( Justin has won all but one main event so far this year ), with the #06 of Jolene Fowner taking 2nd and the #29 of Larry Johnson coming home in 3rd.
Have A Great Day
God Bless Everybody
