Bob and I walked the pits and saw lots of family activity. The folks had their bikes and camp sites all set up in the infield.
Since it rained out the Friday show they prepaired the small track and the large 3/8 high banked oval for the folks to run on. I say folks vs fellas cause there was a fair share of female racers out.
Since Bob and I dont know the motorcycle racers like we do those that race cars on the dirt at Motiva I dont have the names of the riders. I did hear some familiar last names from the past flat track racing at Speedway Park in the 60's. Like dirt car racing it is a family affair with the kids and grand children of the guys that used to watch race at Speedway Park.
There were 45 riders taking the track in different classes. Over 29 Flat Track bikes raced. There were lots of the old framed flat tracker Yamaha 650's and Hondas out, as well as some newer Huskys. We loved hearing those old twins wind up, what beautiful music to these old ears. There were rides from Colorado, Phoenix, Esponola and Santa Fe to compete with our Albuquerque riders. There were even two fellas that were 74 years old, as well as a few pee wee riders under 5 year old.
All in all it was a fun night at Motiva Motor Speedway and we hope all those that raced and attended had as good of an evening as we did. Thank you races for daring to race on the big track, Hope to see you there again.
Ray and Bob Ingram
