The only class running for points this weekend was the Southern Sport Modifieds and run they did at Aztec Speedway. Jessie Baldwin notched his 2nd win in a row but it wasn't easy. The green flag dropped on 21 cars with Paul Miller jumping in front for two laps. Jordan Eddleman was next to take over the lead for, a couple. Next comes the leading rookie driver, Luke McCormick, to the front. McCormick showed the way for five laps till Julie Boettler eased by on lap 10. Boettler was looking for win #15 but it wasn't meant to be tonight. The black #3 of Jessie Baldwin was the fifth different leader as he took over on lap 14. Baldwin went on to win but not without having to check his rear view mirror (if he had one) for 11 more laps. Eddleman, Boettler and McCormick finished in that order behind Baldwin but not before they traded places a few times. Fifth spot was Kevin Faddis in his new sport modified. Sixth on back were: Ricky Baldwin, Brian Carey, Dan Vavrina, Marshall Moody, Paul Miller, Rex Higgins, Dylan Terry, Mike Thiessen, Bub Hughes, Roger Cordary, Jason Hockenhull, Robert Cody, Darrell Cordary, Joey Klemish, Jay Kibel and Clint Proffitt. Heat race winners were: Jordan Eddleman, Joey Klemish and Paul Miller. The Mann Motorsports Dash for Cash winner of $200 was Jessie Baldwin. The Stock car feature was the usual fast side by side, bumper to bumper race. Michael Farley took the early lead for five laps. Race Fisher then took over and looked as though he would take his first win at Aztec as he kept the #15 up front until lap 16. The familiar Witten Warriors #3 moved in front and onto the checkers. Fisher held on for 2nd with Danny Stevenson 3rd. Skyler Heath and Jeramey Bradley rounded out the top five. Sixth on back were: Traci Jennings, Richard Trujillo, Glenn Bray, Leon Shim, Larry Bradley, Michael Farley, Frankie Hendershot and Johnny Livingston. Farley and Hendershot were out after a crash on lap 10. Heat race winners were: Michael Farley and Jeramey Bradley. The Modifieds were few but fast and exciting. Shane Devilbiss stepped aside and let his brother Zane take control of the green machine #43. And take control he did. After Eddie Farley ran in front for the first 3 laps, Zane put the #43 in front and zipped on to the double checkers for yet another win in the IMCA modified ranks. Finishing behind Zane Devilbiss was Allen Bradley with a superb run after having a flat and moving back up to the 2nd spot. Third was Nick Nelson in the Peaches Neet Feet #02. Chad Tenski was 4th in a 2015 IMCA modified. Jeff Jennings was fifth with the rest of the field finishing in order: Jay Mcley of Apple Valley, Calif., Dave Davis, Aaron Spangler, Eddie Farley, Glen Spangler and Andy Hockenhull (in his late model). Heat race winners were: Eddie Farley and Aaron Spangler. The Hobby stock feature was competitive with Randy Dorsett back in his #13 machine and in victory circle. Adam Solkup took 2nd in his pavement car with Paul Dorsett 3rd. Kelly Klemm was fourth and Freddie Brooks fifth. Jessica Radojits was 6th and the rest ran like this: Ranai Toler, and Randy Lutz. Heat race winners were Paul Dorsett and Kelly Klemm. The sport compact feature was taken down by 13 year old Camron Spangler. If he continues racing like his dad, Aaron Spangler, he has about another 140 races to win in his career. Tom Dutton was 2nd with Michael Cody 3rd. Tom Dutton won the heat race. Aztec Speedway will host the Witten Warriors Weekend Sept. 19th and 20th. The stock car feature will pay $1000 to win. Tourning late models are on the schedule as well as the modifieds and sport modifieds. A huge car count is expected for this special event. Racing will start at 7pm each night. I'll see you there! |
