You might say Ricky Alvarado had a perfect weekend or you could say he won it all. However you phrase it, the results are the same. Ricky Alvarado and his #WW1 owned the Havoc on the Plains at Aztec Speedway. He won the first night's feature and his heat and $1200 and Saturday night he picked up $2,000 by winning the feature and his heat and if that wasn't enough, he won the Dash for Cash....which turned out to be a pit bike courtesy of Four Corners Family Dental of Farmington. Alvarado started the 40 feature on the outside of row 4 and at first it appeared that he might have his hands full in getting to the front. Eddie Farley showed the way early from the pole but backed it into turn one on lap 6 and was done for the night. Aaron Spangler then took over till lap 15 when both Alvarado and Ryan Gaylord both got by him coming out of turn two. After that, Alvarado never looked back. Competition from Gaylord of Denver was about his only worry until the National Champ started closing in with his familiar pink panther car with a new number. Zane Devilbiss now sports the #1 on his car and it looked as though he might catch the leader. But fate stepped in and slowed his progress as he had to pit for a left front replacement. Lucky for him the caution was out and Devilbiss rejoined the start on the back. And then the excitement began as Devilbiss worked his way up to 3rd before running out of laps. Ryan Gaylord managed to hold onto 2nd with Devilbiss close by for 3rd. Aaron Spangler was 4th and Regan Tafoya 5th. Nine cautions and one red flag slowed the progress of the race. Sixth on back were: Michael Hale, Casey Delp, Bubba Alvarado, Charlie Felker, Wade Taylor, Christian Johnson, Garrett Funk, Jody Cornell, Danny Bradford, Shane Devilbiss, Brody Spangler, Rick Spangler, Beau Speicher, Eddie Martin, Don Robinson, Darrell Bradford, Bill Butcher, Bryan Wordelman, and Eddie Farley. As mentioned earlier, Ricky Alvarado won the Dash and the pit bike. The B main winners were: Casey Delp and Regan Tafoya. The six heat race winners were: Eddie Farley, Ricky Alvarado, Garrett Funk, Bubba Alvarado, Michael Hale and Donald Robinson. In the IMCA sport modified 25 lap feature, Jessie Baldwin found his way back into victory circle with this win. But it was far from easy as Jordan Eddleman once again was the man to beat. Baldwin caught and passed Eddleman on lap 15 and pulled away to win by almost 2 seconds. Rex Higgins showed some strength by running 2nd behind Eddleman until the #3 of Baldwin passed them. Eddleman maintained 2nd as Higgins held onto 3rd with Joey Klemish a close 4th. Fifth place went to Ricky Baldwin. Sixth on back were: Paul Miller, Luke McCormick, Robert Gaellgos, Jason Hockinhull, Darrell Cordary, Matt Clugston, Mike Thiessen, Calen Wilkins, Chuck Delp, Bill Ferguson, Dillon Terry, Doug Pate, Richard Trujillo, Dakota Kibel, Josh Pate, and Bub Hughes. Heat race winners were: Jordan Eddleman, Dakota Kibel, Rex Higgins, and Joey Klemish. That wraps up the first racing of the season for Aztec Speedway for now. Pretty good crowds were on hand and some good racing. Thanks goes out to Chet and his SpeedshiftTV.com crew. You can catch some of this weekends racing on their website. Aztec Speedway's next night of racing will be April 11th. I'll see you there.
