The Ryan Bard Memorial at Aztec Speedway saw a large field of cars for the Sport Modified feature only to have them run their heats. The light rain was the culprit that put an end to a night of racing but not before all heat races were run along with one feature. The IMCA modified 20 lap feature was halted just after the half way point and declared official. Jeremy Farley was in the lead when the rain made the track to slick for racing. Farley had actually been in front from lap one. Taking 2nd was Aaron Spangler with Alan Bradley 3rd. Matthew Higgins came up from Texas for this event and ran 4th. After a couple of years not racing, Higgins showed he hadn't forgot a thing. Fifth was a strong Darrell Bradford in a Mark Merrian car. Several cars received heavy damage in various crashes in this shortened race. The Sport Modified feature came out to run their 25 lap main in this year's Ryan Bard Memorial. Twenty five cars took the green flag with Jay Kibel leading the first two laps until the defending champion of this race took over. Brian Carey was in front for just a few laps. Jessie Baldwin, in his dominating #3 machine took over and was pulling away when the rains came again. This time the rain won and the race was halted on lap 8. This feature will pick up where it left off on the next night of regular racing at Aztec Speedway. And in that night the sport modifieds will run another feature. The stock cars will run two features. The heat race winners in the modifieds were: Jeremy Farley, Aaron Spangler and Aaron Spangler. Heat winners in the sport modifieds were: Ricky Baldwin, Jordan Eddleman, Rex Higgins and Brian Carey. Heat winners in the stock cars were: Samuel Sansoni, Travis Southerlin and Mike Farley. The hobby heat winner was: Jason Duggins won the hobby heat and the compact winner was Josh Smith. Aztec Speedway will host a Demo Derby next Saturdy at 12 Noon (weather permitting). The race schedule is being reviewed for the make up race for the Winged Sprint cars that was also rained out last weekend. |
