In the IMCA stock car feature, Steffan Carey proves again that he might just be unbeatable. Carey started 12th in this 25 lapper and worked his way through some heavy four wide racing to take the lead on lap 11. He never was challenged and went on to win his fifth feature in a row. Trevor Combs of Albq. started on the pole and showed the way for five laps until Larry Bradley got by him. Bradley surrendered the lead to Carey on lap 11. Second through sixth swapped back and forth for the rest of the race with Ron Brewer finally taking 2nd with Larry Bradley 3rd. Fourth was Skyler Heath with his third top five finish and fifth went to Tony Hill. Sixth on back were: Race Fisher, Jeramey Bradley, Allen Bradley, Michael Farley, Jerald Wright, Glenn Bray, Kelly Klemm, Josh Turnbull (minus the entire right side sheet metal), Traci Jennings, Travis Southerlin and Trevor Combs DNF. Samuel Sansoni had a strong car in the heat race but lost oil pressure and DNS the feature. Heat race winners were: Skyler Heath, Samuel Sansoni and Trevor Combs.
The mini sprints brought 11 cars into Aztec and showed what they could do with the wings on top. And once again, Jacob Johnston showed the way around but not before he had a challenge or two from a Santa Fe driver, Lalo Saenz and Spencer Hill. Hill was in front for the first 4 laps. Lalo did manage to put his car in front for a credited one lap but Johnston came back strong to capture another win at Aztec Speedway. Johnston set fast time for the night in his heat with a 15.401 sec. lap averaging 76.129 mph. He also smoked an engine on the final lap of that heat but obviously had a back up in the trailer. Taking 2nd was Spencer Hill with Lalo Saenz in 3rd. Eric Smith was 4th and Tyler Greer picked up a 5th. Sixth on back did not finish.....Josh Huish, Bradley Huish, Paul Campbell, Don Kruse. Heat race winners were: Paul Campbell and Spencer Hill.
The IMCA sport modifieds were a late night addition to this weekend's racing lineup. Only 11 cars showed up but put on the usual show anyway. Brian Carey (Steffan's pop) was on the point for every lap to log his first win at Aztec this season. Jordan Eddleman was 2nd with Darrell Cordary 3rd. Fourth went to B Baldwin and fifth was Freddie Brooks. Paul Miller was next followed by Jason Keeler in his modified, Richard Trujillo, and Jamie Garcia. Heat race winners were: Jordan Eddleman and Darrell Cordary.
The sport compacts only had 3 cars again with Austin Maxwell taking the win Keith Miller 2nd and RaNai Toler 3rd.
That's it for regular racing until July 11 at Aztec Speedway. Everybody have a great 4th of July.
