The track was dry from the start. Really didnt need any packing. They had all divisions do some hot laps so the drivers would know what they were getting to race on, especially since all the track conditions this year so far had been hammer down tacky. Today the drivers that like dry slick got their wish.
We started the Mains with the Cruiser/Hornets. Jared Hensley #75 started on the pole and showed he was not going to waste the opportunity. Phil York #1 was to start outside of Jared, but decided to start scratch. Jared took off and put a comfortable lead on the rest of the field and it was his race to lose. Ernie Sandoval #80 looked like a strong contender but dropped out for mechanical issue. With about five laps to go, Phil York #1 got on the tail of Jared #75 and with one lap to go made a pass on the back straight looking like the winner, but Jared said OH NO YOU Don't and dove in hard under Phil going into turn three and made the pass back for a great win. The fans went wild.
The Mini Sprints had three cars. Lalo Saenz #619, Gary Guinn #38 and Katie Seals #84. Do I even need to tell you how their main ended? Take a guess.
The Street Stock main was a barn burner. Rob Mosley #74M and Camron Martin #M77 started side by side on the front row, looking like it might be their day for a win. Cheyanna Yates #15 took the lead on about the fifth lap and never lost her lead. Ronnie Bell #1 ran hard and made sure he was there to take advantage of any errors Cheyanna might make. At about mid race their was a yellow flag that put Rick Boelter #5X on Cheyanna's bumper, but going into turn three for the green flag, something broke on Ricks right ft and he pulled off the track. That left Bell, Martin and Mosley to fight it out for second. Bell came in second with Martin and Mosley hot on his heals. R C Combs had his hood fly up before the green and took a quick pit to fix. But he never seemed to be in the hunt and fell out as a DNF. Dan Gross Jr #143 hurt his car last night so he drove dads #43. It too had some mechanical problem and didnt finish.
The X Mod main was fast slam fest. Steve Bonesteel #00 had the pole with Clay Gossett #11X outside. On the green Steve took off with Gossett hot on his heals, even with a half flat left front tire, which finally went flat and he pitted. Shawn Dutcher #54D dropped a suspension part and ran off the top of turn three and had to be towed off. At the same time Todd Budlong #1X who was making a strong move to the front with his eight starting position, rolled a tire off the right ft and had to do hot pit putting his dead last. After the green Steve had his hands full with J R on his bumper. J R finally made the pass, but Steve #00, Dee Yates #1 and Todd #1X were not giving up, as those three would have fit under a small blanket. The finish was J R Bonesteel #0, followed by Steve Bonesteel #00 and Dee Yates #15 and Todd Budlong #1X side by side. Great finish.
The Winged 305 Sprints had only three cars return after the rain out and only were allowed to do some hot laps. Several of the Winged 305's were out of towners and could not race today.
Next week Saturday 8/8/15 will have the return of Winged 305 Sprints, Mini Sprints, X Mods, Cruiser/Hornets. Only a few more weekends of local racing, so grab a friend or neighbor and come on out.
I have been getting questions about how the main event line ups are done. I spoke to Vicky Goss our head scorer and was advised how she does it. At the beginning of the year she make a matrix for every week of racing that changes each week. Only she knows the matrix as to how cars line up for mains. Her example for this week was. 8 6
1 4
2 7
3 5 so if you finished first in your heat you started eight and so on. Next week the matrix will be different. If any division has enough cars for three heats, it was the first eight starting heads up.
