The B main had 12 cars going 12 laps to decide the 8 remaining spots for the main. Josh Hodges showed the way in this one with Colt Treharn 2nd and Lance Norick 3rd. Cody Sickles, Glen Brace, Darrell Sickles and Chuck Jackson didn't make the feature. Brandon Tubbs DNS.
The twenty car field was set with Johnny Herrera on the pole. The green flag dropped and 20 cars roared into turn one with only 17 coming out. John Carney and Jessie Baker touched wheels and both cars flipped up against the wall. Baker's car was done for the night but Carney had a new wing put on the car and restarted in the back. Another car was involved but continued with no damage. After the crash Baker and Carney had to be restrained as tempers flared. Herrera picked up where he left off at the restart, on the pole and out in front. J.T. Imperial was close for a few laps but Lorne Wofford turned up the power and moved into 2nd but could not catch Herrera as Johnny Herrera won by .093 sec. over Wofford. Amazingly, John Carney moved from the back after he flipped and captured 3rd place. In fourth was J.T. Imperial and fifth went to Gary Taylor. James Mosher was 6th. The rest of the field in order were: local driver, Josh Grady, Bob Ream, Josh Hodges, Colt Treharn, Ryan Linder, Johnny Ziehl, Lance Norick, Wes Wofford, Royal Jones, Nick Rael, Casey Buckman, Kaylene Vervile, Jessie Baker and Don Grabeal. It was an emotional win for Johnny as this race was in honor of his father Joe Herrera, a legend in sprint car racing in New Mexico and nationwide with the World of Outlaws series. This one was for "Super Mex".
The Mini sprints of New Mexico were on hand with the wings on. Derrik Ortega took the feature quite easily as he raced in this state for the first time this year. Taking 2nd was Jacob Johnston and Spencer Hill was 3rd. Fourth went to Jason Grady and fifth to Bradley Huish. Sixth was Paul Campbell. Seventh and eigth were Don Kruse and Joshua Huish. Heat race winners were: Ortega and Spencer Hill.
The sport modifieds finished up the 2015 season with their feature. Bub Hughes started his #0 Cookie Monster on the pole and held onto the lead for 20 laps. Hughes held off Jessie Baldwin on the last couple of laps to win his first feature in a sport modified. Quite a popular win and quite a feat to beat Baldwin as he has 24 wins this year. Behind Baldwin was Luke McCormick with 4th going to Darrell Cordary and Richard Trujillo in fifth. The race was red flagged as Tanner Digman slammed into the backstretch wall landing on his side on top of the wall. He was unhurt but the car was done. Sixth on back were: Dakota Kibel, LT Perea, Freddie Brooks, Killian Carey, Randy Dorsett, Sergio Languenos, Paul Miller, Dylan Terry, Danial Miller, Bill Dowdy, Tanner Digman, Mark Merrion, Kristi Tenski and Robert Cody. Heat race winners were: Bub Hughes, Kristi Tenski and Allen Palmer.
And that wraps up the 2015 racing season at Aztec Speedway. Thanks to all the fans for supporting the track through the year and a big thanks to the huge crowd Saturday night. Hopefully racing and racing events will be bigger and better next year with more special shows. Thanks also to Bryan Hulbert, Announcer-PR for the ASCS based in Tulsa, Oklahoma.
