Good showing of cars in all fields, except A mods. Where are all those A Mod cars???. Sprinters had 22 cars for their opening. Cruisers has 17 cars, down a little from their norm of 22-23+ cars. Richard Ainsworth #25 came back from his roll over last weak to win his heat and place 4th in the Cruiser main. Rick Boelter out again with his #7 Cruiser, he won, and he ran with the Street Stocks in their main and was keeping up, whats with that??? The Neff's are running strong this year and will be tough comp. The cars of Anthony and Ernie Sandoval were fast, but both broke in the main, lets see how they do next Sat.
The Street Stocks had 6 cars in competition all were fast with the usual R C Combs #53 and Cheyanna Yates #15 very fast. Danny Gross Jr #143 looked like he was gonna give them a run for the money but broke, nothing major, but it did stop his run. Jason Gallegos #13 a new driver in that division was running strong and smooth, give him a few more events and he may challenge the old guard. Jim Kosinski #18 was fast, when he gets it all together for an entire race, watch out.
Mini Sprints had one of their best showing of cars 12 total, with 3 being rookies. Jacob Johnston #17j was fielding his new Sprint 360 so he did not compete. That left Brianna Franchini #5f and Mike Barns #72 to fight it out with Bob Harrington #1st. That was your top three in their main.
The A mod event had four cars, 2 true A Mods and 2 X Mods. Cain #3j won both heat and main with Clint Miller #58 following.
The non wing Sprint 360 racing w/o the NMMRA banner this year had the best field of cars. The track was rough and made the racing very scary. I am glad I didnt have to run on it. There was a high grove and low grove. If you got stuck in the middle God help you. I saw some cars get all four wheels off the ground coming out of turn 2 and land almost sideways. What a show of driving ability just to keep those sprinters out of the back stretch wall. Jason Grady #45 was the man to beat, he won both his heat and the main. Both of the Mansfield boys were fast. Cody Mansfield #4x ran second the in main but word I got was he missed going to tech and was DQ. Too bad, he drove a hard and fast race to come away with nothing for his efforts. Following Cody across the finish was a fellow from Alamogordo, NM in car #22 I only remember his last name, Lassiter, he was fast and kept both Jason and Cody in his sights all day. Rick Johnson #65 was back in action after a lay off. Sadly he was involved in a crash in his heat that took his front end off, he and crew got to work and got him out for the main, only to graze the back wall to end his day of racing. Michael Fanelli #2 (new car and number) ran strong. Nick Rael #73 was fast but the rough track gave him fits, several times his car got up on one wheel and came down sideways, great job of saving the car, but he was unable to really unleash all the power to the track.
For those who remember him, Stephen Bertetto modified #7 was in town to visit and stopped by the track. Steven tells me he is looking to race at the Cotton Bowl track near his new home in Austin, TX. I have been to that track, they have a great field of fast cars and put on a good show. I am going there next Saturday as I'm going to visit son and grand daughters. I might write something when I get back.
We got to see our racing heroes and watch some races. Looking forward to night time events starting next Saturday 4/16/2016. Come out and see Wing 305 Sprints, Mini Sprints, X Mods, Street Stocks, and Cruisers put a show for you.
Always Ray and Bob Ingram
