The first night of the Ryan Bard Memorial at Aztec Speedway is in the books with night two on tap for a 7pm start tonight. Friday night's racing proved to be very competitive with some extremely close action and even closer finishes.
The limited modifieds fielded 15 cars for a25 lap feature after Darrell Cordary's car couldn't make the start due to engine trouble. Cordary ended up driving Jay Kibel's ride. When the green flag fell, Jordan Eddleman put his ‪#‎11x‬ out front and remained there for another win. The racing behind him was close with lots of passing and repassing between several cars. Back to back winner, Chad Tenski, had moved up to 3rd and appeared to be strong enough to pass the top two but on lap Tenski pulled off due to some mechanical woes. Tenski was super fast earlier in the night as he set a new track record for this class. Tenski turned in a lap of 16.235 sec. with an average speed of 73.175 mph. Bub Hughes was also in record territory with a 16.436 sec. lap. Finishing close behind the the winner was Travis Montgomery in his best finish this year. Third went to Brian Carey followed by Allen Palmer (yet another top 5 finish). In fifth was Bub Hughes after coming back from an early spin. Darrell Cordary brought Jay Kibel's #89 home in 6th. Seventh on back were: RL Henley, Jay Hank, Bill Dowdy, and Adam Brewer. Joey Klemish, Ryan Henley, Chad Tenski and Anthony Ludwig did not finish. Heat race winners in this class were: Jordan Eddleman, Travis Montgomery and Chad Tenski.
In the 25 lap A-Modified feature, the Gallardos of El Paso, Texas showed the way to the checkers. Jacob Gallardo took the lead away from fellow Texan Austin Adams on lap seven and his dad, Fito Gallardo soon followed suit by moving into 2nd spot. Finishing 3rd was National Modified champ, Zane Devilbiss of Farmington. In 4th was Austin Adams of El Paso, Tx. in his first appearance at Aztec Speedway with Jeramy Farley in 5th. Sixth on back were: Robbie Chiles, Mark Rodgers (Rodgers led the first 3 laps till a spin put him in the back), Jason Keeler, and Tom Melloy. Donald Scott, Julie Keeler and Derek Neil did not finish. Heat race winners were: Mark Rodgers and Fito Gallardo.
The 20 lap stock car feature was a sit on the edge of your seat type of race. Allen Bradley took the early lead with his wife, Traci Bradley running door to door with him. Young Jeramey Bradley was a close 3rd for the first seveal laps. Ron Brewer and Jordan Hockenhull brought out a yellow on lap 11 with Brewer on the hook and Hockenhull continuing. Allen Bradley and Jeramey Bradley fought it out on every lap with Jeramey taking the lead with 8 to go. Then with 4 laps to go Allen went back to the front but Jeramey wouldn't give up the pair ran the last 3 laps side by side. Or I should say 2 and 3/4 laps. Coming off turn 4 on the final lap, Jeramey went a bit too low and hooked the inside burm causing him to barrell roll the car one time. Jeramey was quickly out of the car and was OK. Allen Bradley did win with Travis Southerlin taking 2nd. Jordan Hockenhull grabbed 3rd with Traci Bradley in 4th and Larry Bradley was 5th. Skyler Heath and Ron Brewer along with Jeramey Bradley did not finish. On a good note...Jeramey had his car back on track at the end of the night's program. It hot lapped just fine....with a few new wrinkles. Heat race winners were: Allen Bradley and Ron Brewer.
The B- Modifieds brough only five cars and Rex Higgins continued his domination of this class by yet another easy win. Randy Dorsett was 2nd with Andy Hockenhull in 3r. Robert Cody was 4th and Kelly Klemm 5th. Higgins also won the heat race.
The sport compacts feature was taken down by Eugene Felker with his son Evan Felker 2nd. Third was Brittany Yates and Jay Hicks was 4th. Heat race winner was Eugene Felker.
Come out tonight to Aztec Speedway for the 2nd night of the Ryan Bard Memorial. More cars are expected to be here along with more money up for grabs. We start racing at 7pm. I'll see you there.
