This weekend's show was easily one of the best I've seen anywhere in years.
Full pits,great crowd&3/4 wide racing.
Close finishes,no serious carnage.
The 305 winged sprints had a stellar turnout of 22 cars.
First 23 laps of the feature was the Lorne Wofford rim riding show,he was up on the rim checked out.
Couple yellows field bunches up,cushion is going away,Don Grable in the Abq.based Butch Box sprinter puts it on the bottom and puts a beautiful slide job on Wofford with 2 to go & steals the win.
Great race that had the crowd on it's feet.
Royal had a great run from 16th to 3rd.
Derek Demartino was 4th and Robert Herrera rounded out the top 5.
3/4 wide throughout the pack the entire race.
Again props to Butch Box,Don Grable,Kevin Hibdon on a great win.
Looked like there was a pretty good sized celebration going on in their pits.
X mods...
Good guy Gregory Gorham took the win in his Baxter built car.by all of 1/2 car length over a hard charging John Carney.
We had a yellow with less than 5 to go.
Things got crazy...top 13 cars were all 3/ 4 wide and everyone finished under a blanket all over each other.
...should be against the law to have that much fun.Had a blast.
Jeez, those guys run hard. The depth of stout cars in the X mod division down there is amazing.
Considering several of their hitters were absent (Sherm&Christy Barnett,Rob Madrid,Dickie&Mellisa Gorham)and they still had a stout 14 cars that were capable of winning,it's a testament to the quality & depth of the X mod class down there.
Top 5...
Gregory Gorham las cruces Baxter built
John Carney el paso Carney built
Justin Allen las cruces AOS (Jimmy Ray)
Jimmy Ray las cruces AOS
Brian Klein las cruces D&M
The street stock feature was won by Lloyd Turner in his stunning 57 chevy.
Complete with original 57 style paint job & gold leaf lettering this car has to be one of prettiest race cars in the country.
He came from the back to narrowly beat Jaime Torres.
Good night for the evil toy maker(Baxter)as both cars were sporting his shocks.
Aasa Boo-Flores won the feature in the new claimers class.
Mike Marquez won the mini sprints.
After the X mod feature I meandered over to watch tech.
Watching them do their due diligence was cool. They take tech seriously down there. They check everything...
Which is probably why the competition is so close...everyone's on the same page.
Far cry from Fegans pretend tech deal at Sandia.
Came home batteries fully recharged, can't wait to go back.
Lastly,
In 2 weeks the Usac/NMMRA non wing shootout takes place.
X mods are on the card as well.
Royal&Co.have already started a heavy advertising blitz.
This show usually produces some of the best racing to found anywhere in the country.
Should be fun...
