Another great show at Southern New Mexico Speedway. 45 USMTS stars were on hand to put on a great show on a FAST track. The 50 lap Main Event saw 3 and even 4 wide racing with only 2 caution periods to slow the action. For about the first half of the race it was a family affair of Las Cruces drivers with the Scott twins of Johnny & Stormy, the father and son duo of Bumper & Royal Jones and anothe father and son duo of Fito and Jacob Gallardo holding down the top 6 spots. Johnny Scott led for 49 and 3/4 laps with Stormy taking the win in lapped traffic at the checkered flag by .02 seconds ( that equates to about a Cats Whisker ). Of the 13 races in the USMTS series this year, Stormy has won 7 and Johnny has won 3, with Stormy taking the $5,000.00 bounus for winning the Gulf Region Championship on Saturday night.
The X-Mods had a good field of 21 cars but had numerous yellow flags ( 6 or 7 ) in the early going. Once things got sorted out and settled down these guys were flying. Jacob Gallardo in the #18 car of Henry Valdez took the win over the #07 of Donovan Flores. Gallardo does double duty driving both X-Mods and A-Mods and Flores does double duty driving Street Stocks and X-Mods.
The Steet Stocks had a short field of only 9 cars but boy did they put on a show. Donovan Flores in the #07 took the win over the #3H of Noah Hollingshead with the #9C of Dylan Hill taking the last podium position.
The Mini-Sprints also had a short field of 9 cars but still put on a good show. These little Pocket Rockets were flying. Youngster ( 16 years old ) Spencer Hill from Albq. won both his heat and the Main Event by a comfortable margin with the #3S of Sal Gomez keeping him honest most of the way to come home in second place.
As always Royal Jones and crew did a great job of putting on some first class racing at Southern New Mexico Speedway.
