Got a call from my buddy Sherman Barnett who's sponsoring the 5k to win west Texas shootout in El paso this weekend.(old guy finished 8th) Guess they had a pretty wild time last night in El paso...last night. Track was dry & racy from top to bottom. 4 out of the top 5 got dq'ed... 2 for carb infractions (what constitutes non altered) lol. Both are lobbying for reinstatement due to the carbs being legal all year, then last night, not so much. 2 for compression ( one puffed 13 to 1...oops). 10.1 gets ya dq'ed...so missed by just a smidge. Tech was thorough&brutal. They pulled oil pan plugs, checking for lightweight cranks.(no plug, meant drop the pan in the dirt). Top 5 were in tech for a while... They even went so far as to take off pull bars & check for hidden, internal springs. Lots of 3/4 wide racing, pushing, gouging, flared tempers & bent up bodies. Yellow w/couple to go & Greg Gorham put it on the rim & went from 10th to 3rd. Sounds like the fans got their money's worth... Tonight it's 5k...to win, so I'll bet it gets amped up by a bunch. Wish I was there...
Julius...that kid you have in grants is pretty diligent as well.(can't remember his name). Opening night after I won the feature, I roll into tech... Kid walks up, looks me in the eye and says... "I really hope you ain't cheatin', cuz I WILL CATCH you...and I won't hesitate to bust your ass...lol. Love that guy...wish we had him here.
