Is anybody besides me getting tired of seeing the fastest driver in nearly every division starting on the front row of almost every main-event?????? Wes Woford, J.R. Bonesteel, Jacob Johnston, Josh Cain, R. C. Combs, Rick Boelter etc. I know there is an argument about cars getting torn up in an inverted start but what is the difference if the slower cars get passed in the earlier stages of the race or later in the race as they are getting lapped. Think about how exciting it was last year when the X-Mod #0 of J.R. Bonesteel here at Sandia Speedway elected to start from the back of the main-event and won almost every time, he had the fans on their feet screaming and hollering. Or the beautiful 1957 Chevy #0 of Lloyd Turner in Las Cruces who elects to start at the back and has finished 1st or 2nd every time. Back in the old days ( 1960's & 70's ) the likes of Gaylord Lippert, Dick Pool, George Brazil Jr., Cliff Odom, Donnie Byers, Ray Ingram, Roby Harger, Orin King, Jim Crawley, Jerry Jordan, Dick and Kelly Shaw among others never started up front and look back and see how many races they won. Would we not be putting on a better show for the great fans we have here in Albuquerque and possibly giving a few different drivers an opportunity to take a checkered flag victory lap????? Just my not always so humble opinion.
Use the same scramble format the track uses now but for every win a driver has move them back one row. Should be easy enough for the scorers. You might still have the same winners but it won't be off the front. If you want the heat races to matter more use 6 for the scramble instead of the current eight.

Re: I'm going to stir up some hate and discontent !!!
When some one besides Myself starts paying for stuff that gets torn up trying to get around NON DRIVING ASS HOLES, then I will have My Drivers start DEAD LAST every week, Tim almost got KILLED @ Hollywood Hills passing some NON DRIVING ASS HOLE Thar's ALL I got to say
Re: I'm going to stir up some hate and discontent !!!
Just a thought- line up the heats off point average, line up the feature off heat finish. This kinda gets halfway between the two given evils previously stated. ( & I agree about the carnage of the cars. when dad was racing late models his car was about half the cost of an x mod. You went to the junk yard for parts not the race shop)
Re: I'm going to stir up some hate and discontent !!!
I could only imagine the driver Rants at Speedway park had Gaylord, or Don Byres, or Orrin King got to start their Main events on the front row in the 70's! A Lot of people hated Dick Shoudt for a number of things. But one comment he made I wholeheartedly agreed with "Anytime a Racer can win the Main/ Feature without having to pass one car is not a show!
Bob/Ray... I agree, back in the day watching the people you mentioned start in the back & work their way to the front was as good as it gets from a fans perspective. Friday nights, sprints...Buddy Taylor, Larry Demaree, Dan Appel,Roy Hicks assuming their weekly position@the back of the field & charging to the front...that was awesome. Here's the dilemma...tho, Fans perspective=invokes great racing. Racers perspective (at least in X mod), you go to the back..chances of survival in making it to the front are miniscule. It's like walking blindfolded thru a mine field...ask Skimmer, his GRT got destroyed Saturday night.Start trailering people for driving out of control & maybe it becomes feasible...you're not taking your life in your hands then. Hat's off to Bonesteel for doing it last year...it aged him & he doesn't do it anymore. I have no idea how they do the feature line up @Sandia. I think it's a combination of voodoo, incantation's, blind fold & dart board. I do know this... if you put the fast guys at the back every week, then the heat races become a non factor. As it stands, you have to hustle it to the front in your heat, in order to stay out of the kill zone in the back in the feature. People would start sand bagging. I don't have a solution to the problem.Wish I did. But...tell you what, the racing this season has been damn good every Saturday night. The tracks been crazy fast, some outstanding racing. IMO, best this city has had in years. ...standing @the pay window Saturday night behind all the Southern 305 guys that came to race & listening to them rant & rave about the track reinforces my point. Lastly... Appreciate all that the Ingrams do to promote local racing...you guys are great & we're lucky too have you.
Rant over, carry on.
Re: I'm going to stir up some hate and discontent !!!
the hollywood hills days in late models we inverted the whole field by points in the main and i like the challenge, if you wanted to run scratch you could so not to get in the way.
Re: I'm going to stir up some hate and discontent !!!
I'm all for it. Gary Smith and I were talking about the same thing Saturday night while waiting in line for the pill draw. It will make racing much more exciting for the fans. Nothing is more boring than to watch 10 cars drive around in single file for 15 or 20 laps unless your driver is in the lead. I have mentioned the idea to the track and believe they are the ones who need to be convinced. It will make all the drivers better. Phil York Cruiser #1
the sprint car line up has no consistency to it call it a scramble or whatever the drivers just shrug there shoulders shake there heads and line up.....yes there are some tune-ups the track could use line up sense would be one....next imagine the track if the rippers weren't put into it every week then we would have smooth fast race track....things are going well now just tune er up a little! and Thanks for giving us a Great place to race at home
