A sparse crowd was on hand for some of the best racing you'll want to pay to see at Aztec Speedway last night. This night of racing was a makeup for an earlier rain out. We will also host the regular racing tonight (Saturday) at 8pm. Let's check out the main event in the modifieds first. Tyrone Yazzie started on the poll for this 20 lapper with only 11 cars making the call. But 11 cars was plenty for some superb racing put on by most of the field. Yazzie jumped in front with Eddie Farley and Shane Devilbiss challenging for a few laps. Farly looked as though he might get by Yazzie but on lap three, Farley's #51 just stopped running as it came out of turn 4. Somehow everyone missed the stalled car but Farley was done for the night. Something appeared to lock up on his car bringing him to a sudden halt. The race continued after the yellow with Yazzie in command and everybody else chasing. At least 6 different cars were close enough at times to keep Yazzie on his toes. In the end Yazzie took the popular win with Zane Devilbiss on his bumper. Regan Tafoya and Nick Nelson fought it out side by side for 3rd and 4th respectfully and fifth was a hard charging Aaaron Spangler. Sixth on back were: Jason Keeler, Danny Bradford, Shane Devilbiss, Darrell Bradford, Camron Spangler and Eddie Farley. Heat race winners were: Eddie Farley and Regan Tafoya. The track was fast with 4 cars turning in almost identical lap times of 16.560 sec./71.739 mph average.
The stock cars ran their usual fast and close race with 3 and 4 wide racing. Michael Farley was up front for 5 laps at which time a very familiar red and white #3 stormed by. Steffan Carey was not to be denied another win as he won going away from the rest of the field. Race Fisher was strong but had to settle for 2nd with Texas racer Brandon Hopper 3rd. Fourth was Samuel Sansoni and fifth Tony Hill. The racing was very close for 20 laps between 2nd through 6th. Sixth on back were: Alan Bradley, Skyler Heath, Jordan Hockenhull, Larry Bradley, Michael Farley, Kelly Klemm, Ron Brewer and Jeramy Bradley. Brewere went out on lap 14 with mechanical problems after running as high as 3rd. Jeramy Bradley had a run in with the backstretch wall. Heat race winners were: Michael Farley and Samuel Sansoni.
The sport modifieds had 13 cars take the green with Ricky Baldwin leading all but one lap and taking down the win. Jessie Baldwin had a bumper in front on lap 15 at the line and was scored as the leader. that lasted till turn one when Ricky Baldwin jumped back into the lead and was never passed again. The race was for 2nd through 4th as drivers traded those spots several times. Rex Higgins eventually ended up in 2nd with Jessie Baldwin 3rd. In fourth was Darrell Cordary and fifth went to Brian Carey. Sixth on back were: Randy Dorsett, Kristi Tenski, Bub Hughes, Richard Trujillo, Sergio Luengas, Freddie Brooks, Paul Miller. and Mark Merrion. Heat race winners were: Rex Higgins and Ricky Baldwin.
The hobby stock feature went to Paul Dorsett as he ran his millionth race and won his millionth race...well, something like that. Good run for Paul. In 2nd was Bill Dutton with Ricky Heath 3rd and Brooklynne Kibel 4th. Fifth was RaNai Toler. Jason Duggins went out early with mechanical problems and Paul Weller was not allowed to run due to some problem with the car. Paul won the heat also.
In the sport compacts, Brittany Yates once again takes home the trophy with Rick McDonald running his slot car up to 2nd and Michael Cody was awarded 3rd with Austin Maxwell 4th. Keith Miller finished 3rd but was DQd for not going to tech inspection.
And that's how they did it Friday night at Aztec Speedway. We'll do it again tonight at 8pm so come on out for more great racing and more cars are confirmed to be there tonight. Aztec Speedway TONIGHT.....I'll see you there.
