Because of this I can understand where you're coming from only walking from one side of the house to the other. I have been using a fitbit since December to monitor my steps, exercise, heart rate, weight and water intake. I must tell you that, for me, this has really helped with my motivation. I have my steps at 3,000 minimum per day right now, but once the weather gets warmer I will up that count. I can actually get the 3,000 pretty easily. As far as my exercise, I started out with walk aerobics dvds. Now I just walk in place and around the house at a decent pace. Most times I will get in my daily exercise as I'm making my daily Super Oats chips for supper. It takes 30 minutes total to cook them--10 minutes total in a skillet (5 minutes per side) and 20 minutes baking in the oven (10 minutes per side). The time flies when I do it that way!
I hope that maybe this can help you to get motivated and if you ever want some tips, etc. please don't hesitate to post on the board. I check it fairly often. It would be nice to have someone else who's on their journey to "chat" with.
