Another Wake Up Call Posted by MaryL on 9/12/2018, 1:51 am I was in a meeting at work yesterday afternoon. As I left that meeting I had the sudden realization that there was a cloud or veil over the vision in my left eye. I work in a Quality Assurance Lab at the company. My job depends largely on being able to see clearly. As you can imagine I didn't take a lot of time in deciding to leave work to get checked out. At the optometrist clinic they asked a lot of questions like Have you been under a lot of stress lately, how is your blood pressure, and are you diabetic and what is your fasting blood sugar. Well I live in the United States where the divisiveness and political unrest is bound to be a stress factor, and yesterday before I left for work as I was washing a sink full of dirty dishes that I didn't dirty, my husband took time out of his "busy retirement day" to scream at me because he ran over a hoe with the lawn mower. "Why No Why on Earth would I be stressed??? My eye had a burst blood vessel and I lost part of my vision in the left eye as a result. This is again is another wake up that I am not taking care of my health. Nutrition plays a crucial role in health issues. I naturally went home and comfort ate as a result of my wonderful day. Tonight I will need to sleep sitting up before my 8 AM appointment. I will check back in next week after my colonoscopy. I am hoping to have a better mindset.

Sometimes life taps us on the shoulder to remind us to take care of ourselves, and sometimes it smacks us on the head! I've observed that men have a tendency to put their pride before all else and blame everyone and everything around them for their mistakes. I suppose women can be guilty of that too, but we tend to not be as ruled by pride as our male friends. I catch Andy at it all the time. He never yells or anything, but he'll do something careless and immediately project blame. Haha...all these years (18) I lived without a husband makes it almost funny to me to see that even at 65 not much has changed in the male mind. Take care of yourself and when you are ready to begin again we will be here for you.

Posted by Yvonne on 9/12/2018, 9:21 am, in reply to "Another Wake Up Call" I know I shouldn't have said that on this Board, but gee-whiz, MaryL, how could you have coped with all of that upheaval other than to commit homicide rather than eat something? Now, how long did they say that it would take for your vision to return to normal after the burst blood vessel? Will you need laser or something? I hope you can get some alone "down-time" or else you will not get through this. Do you have a hobby or something that you like to do, like square-dancing or a quilting bee? Try to go to that place. That's what I do. I hope your colonoscopy goes well. Just keep trying to fight, MaryL. As long as we are alive and God gives us breath in our bodies, we can get better and do the things we need to do. God Bless you!

The eye drops that she prescribed helped the blood vessel, and thank God, my vision is better today. The optometrist said to avoid stress, don't bend over, maintain an erect posture-....but she wouldn't advise me to stay off work nor give me a slip for work(really???) I'll be back on track next Tuesday and ready to SS. Until then I'll be prepping for the Monday colonoscopy. Yvonne take care and keep going!

MaryL: With my husband's illness, I know now that "healthcare providers" show no sympathy or humanity, as they once did. Do yo have a sick days? It's all a factory now with caring for employees or families. They (the world) just keep pushing us, and pushing us until we die. Keep going, MaryL. Your health is paramount. I am beginning to REALLY believe it after witnessing it with husband through his health issues.
