Yesterday I got my blood work back and I was not at all happy with it. I've been diabetic since I was a teenager. I've held it at bay with diet and exercise and more recently, Metformin. I turn 60 this year so considering how long I have been diabetic without any complications is pretty good I think. But aging will inevitably make it so I can't keep outrunning it. I immediately went in to "I need to fix this" mode and losing more weight and increasing activity is the first obvious option. My goal is to stay off of insulin or any of the potentially harmful meds for diabetes until I die of old age! lol! I have a health history of heart disease and hypertension, also that dates back to teens and early 20's. I have no doubt I would have died long ago had I not had Cambridge to turn to. Not to be overly dramatic or anything, but I was completely at the end of any hope when I found Cambridge again 17 years ago. It was my white knight!
So..today I am SSing with a purpose. Not to just lose some extra pounds that have crept on. Not to make my clothes fit better. Not to feel better about what I see in the mirror. Now it is about doing everything in my power to help my body deal with it's challenges that I have fought my whole life. I'm going to win this battle! For now, I am jumping in the pool to get my exercise and then having my 3rd shake, then making dinner for the family. It's ON!!
