Lady Gaga has some inspiring words, but what she had to say has been my ENTIRE LIFE!!
As a little black kid born into poverty in the tenements of Harlem and the housing projects of New Jersey, who ever dreamed that this nappy-headed, dark-skinned girl would be anything other than an unwed teenage mother in the 'hood? Yet, here I am!!!
It is not an Academy Award, but I have just been named Emeritus Professor of Obstetrics and Gynecology at New York Medical College (a title awarded by the medical school to faculty who have had a distinguished academic career). I'm walkin' on sunshine!!
And as far as this Cambridge journey. Yes, I have stumbled and fallen, failed and been frustrated, but I have NEVER stopped trying. I will get to my goal and so will each one of us who just keeps going——Lady Gaga (speaks to all of us).
