glad u found this site too, at least knowing u are not alone with this rubbish condition might makes u feel less freaked out :-) of course i have to attend some events like birthdays, x-mas etc. cause everyone else of the family is there and i could not fabricate a good enough reason not to come ;-) at the moment i am visiting family as well, and the bathroom is located so i feel the toilet might as well be in the frontroom with just a curtain around it..from the outside u can hear the tap running, the toilet lid going up and all else. also the toilet itself is literally 30cm away from the door. just telling u this cause it might make u feel a bit better as presumably u still have a 'safe' area at home. what makes it worse is that there is a ventilator kind of thing going on as soon as i switch the bathroom light on. u might think this would make it easier as there is some kind of noise but paradoxically u cannot hear the ventilator from the outside. but when u're in the bathroom u can't hear anything outside, so u never know if anyone is nearby. but i realize i am going on too much, sorry about that. take care
i think i can speak for the majority of people with this 'quirk' that we know exactly what u're feeling..
i hope your fiance is understanding? or does she not really know why u had to leave her mum's house early?
i feel the same when i have to go to other people's houses. most people will have fairly quiet homes, like not have any tv or even music on, and also most people i know have their bathroom right next to the living room which i absolutely HATE *g*
so i have to sit there and try to bear it. which is possible if u know it will not last forever and all that, but nevertheless it is painful and mind-wrecking and very tense.
it's knowing that everyone can hear u but u can't hear them. it's quite bad.
maybe i should take a little lamp into the bathroom so the fan doesn't go on, but then my mum would question such a weird action for (to her) no apparent reason.
anyway remember u are not alone :-)
