Hi there, I'm in the same boat as you. I have a debilitating inability to poo anywhere but in a safe/private toilet. so if i have a hotel room, that bathroom is safe. but as of saturday i'm going to be in Fiji, in a very rural village living in a home stay with a Fijian family and a roommate (someone i've never met). needless to say i haven't been able to look forward to my trip for the last 6 months as all I can think about is the fact that I'm not going to have a safe toilet. any time i've been in similar situations I've done what you did and stayed up late. well, what i would do is set an alarm for something like 4 in the morning and hope I needed to go then. another thing i've found helpful is to either have a "fake shower" and just run the shower and then have a solid 10-15 minutes to be at your leisure in the bathroom knowing people assume you're showering, or to schedule your shower for when you need to use the toilet, run the shower, and then hop in after youve used the toilet, and flush after the shower is turned off. I'm seriously hoping that being confronted with our phobia will mean we are forced to get over it! i hope you have as stress free a trip as possible !! we can do this!
