scott- thanks for responding. Constipation was the first obvious place to go with this problem; but when he does go, his stools are small and don't seem hard and dry. We tried laxatives anyway but it made everything so soft, he has no control at all. The kidsgi site you suggested was very helpful. It gave me some good ideas and great insight into what my son might be feeling, but can't express. It gave some good instructions on steps we can takes to basically reprogram his thinking. I have been patient with him about this for so long cause I had a gut instinct that this was not physical or defiant on his part, but something that was keeping a hold on him mentally. But still, there are physical aspects of this that are hard to just ignore and it is frustrating. I now feel that I have some usuable ammunition to slowly (but surely) rectify the problem. The article at the kidsgi site mention that at about age six, the child will start denying the problem entirely and act like it isn't even happening, denying the smell and all. That is exactly what is happening and the reason I got desperate to find some information. We looked through the site together, and that helped us to talk about it and he can admit that something's going on because it happens to other kids, too. Thanks so much. You've helped a great deal. I'll keep you posted on our progress; it's going to take time, I know, but here we go. Mom (Elizabeth)
