The CPI FAQs and the CPI examiner manual describe the difference between intra and inter cognitive comparisons. Looking at intra-cognitive differences is always the preferred and recommended means of identifying significant processing patterns within individuals. While the CPI is not intended to be used as an ADHD evaluation, certain cognitive processing patterns are frequently associated with ADHD (specifically sequencing and processing speed issues). When the CPI notes that a given pattern is frequently associated with ADHD it certainly does not mean that an ADHD diagnosis is likely. It merely suggests that ADHD may be an additional factor to consider. In contrast, the FBA Profiler compares observable behavior patterns with actual DSM criteria and therefore provides a much more direct measure of diagnostic significance.
