After a year of watching the time close on our web site slowly click down from over 400+ days the time has finally come to watch something that was merely an idea a little over a year ago, become reality. That's what makes my job both fun and exciting.
The sales staff gave me a room on the 25th floor, overlooking the Colorado River. Absolutely beautiful! I could stay here forever.
We got here at around 10:00am local time and a few people like Jim Moody and Larry & Hazel Donahue were already here. Slowly people have been trickling into town. Everyone seems to be fired up and ready for show time.
The Ballroom is going to be absolutely wonderful. Plenty of space, very cool and lots of memories from 9 years ago.
We'll start setting things up at 9:00am local time. First up tis to turn the studs loose on the meet set up and then Robbin, myself, Hazel, Laurie and several others will start with the team stuff.
Then Robbin, Larry Donahue and myself will start on the meet cards and get real for the check-ins.
For people who have never helped with a meet, you'll never know what fun and how exiting a meet really can be until you are part of one. There is a very special bond between the people who work their butts off the set up a meet so everyone else can enjoy it. That special bond lasts for decades or even a lifetime in many cases. It's all about the people.
I am setting here at my big picture window, on the 25th floor at 6:30am west Coast time watching the sun slowly rise above the fiery valley below which will soon reach an afternoon temperature of 114 degrees. I am thinking about all the decades I have conducted meets, all the wonderful and outstanding people I have been blessed to have known and encountered. WOW. Certainly not the highest paid job in the world by any means. Absolutely not the easiest job to do. But my job, without a doubt has been the most rewarding thing a man could ever have known for two reasons and two reasons only...the people and the organization. Thank You for making my life truly rewarding and not simply a lifetime but absolutely a special event!
