1st - lifters found steroids which were readily accessible in the 70s & 80s.
2nd - lifters discovered mass quantities of steroids wouldn't kill you (in the short term) and, what doesn't kill you makes you stronger.
3rd - lifters discovered that modifying the blast shirt and super suit with engineered fabric would allow you to lift more.
4th - lifters further discovered that if you sew this shirts & suits together...you can lift more.
Now...lifters realize that if you lift in a fed that allows high squats....you can lift more.
What I find ironic...at least in NASA.... is our membership expects and receives an integrity based powerlifting organization. Integrity is where values and behavior intersect - - basically, when you act like you said you would. We clearly want this and get it. Without a doubt NASA never waivers from the fundamental values of drug free lifting by the rules in a family-friendly environment. Our best lifters are not treated any differently from our novice lifters. We love this.
But this is what I find ironic - we ask ourselves how we can bring this sport back to its roots. The answer is in basic economics: only patron those who you want to survive and thrive. In essence, be loyal.
So.....why in the hell do we still have lifters participating in other organization?? Yet we b###h.
I'm done with that. I'm taking my stand. If you participate in other organizations (lift, judge, coach) you are degrading the quality of lifting in powerlifting, period. Listen, I don't care if you lift, coach & judge in other organizations --- just don't b###h about declination of standards. You are the problem.
