Silver wheel pait is heat resistant and I've never had a problem with using it - I guess it forms a glue-like seal and, because it's a spray, you can get a nice, even finish.
There are special copper gasket 'paints' on the market that I'm sure do a very good job.
Two schools of thought regarding running in; one says take it slow, minimum revs for the first five hundred miles or so to allow it to bed in gently...
and the second school (mainly among racers) is to thrash the pants off it so it beds in hard!
I'm with the first school simply because I've never had the nerve to try thrashing it... :o)
