exactly same thing as happened to dogchops has happened to me.clutch normaly on verge of grabbing but on giving a handfull would sound as if slipping.couldn't get my head around two different extremes happening at "same time" ie how can it drag + slip at same time.stripped it and woodruff key in two bits(remarkably bike still working...can only think clutch basket was "rebinding" to the shaft). No real marks on shaft but lapped it anyway.
couple of dumb questions for you tho'
1.which way around should the bronze face of the thrust washer face
2.any clever ways to lock the mainshaft(apart from in gear with brake on) to torque the clutch nut properly(i suspect that not tightening it enough in the first place caused the problem...aaargh.....stupid boy.)
thanks in advance for any help...cheers
