You mentioned that you thought it was your brake binding so is it a squealing sound?
If the noise is there all the time but gets worse when you depress the clutch, I'm thinking it could be a primary drive issue - either chain related or perhaps the clutch basket is loose.
More information is needed for diagnosis but probably your best bet is to just whip off the chaincase and see what lurks beneath...
