soak everything in carb cleaner then run it through a pots-and-pans cycle in your dishwasher!
Apart from any seriously burned on carbon, which will need to be scraped off manually in any case, it will come out looking brand new.
Dishwashers are fantastic for cleaning anything of aluminum alloy base because they create a highly alkaline environment that degreases and slightly etches the surface.
This is perfect for cylinder heads, carbs etc. that you intend to paint with wheel silver or similar.
Not so perfect if you're married, of course...
