12 months had passed since the inaugural Moki 1000 and we were eager to see what the weather was to bring for this event after last years dismal display from the weather gods. Fortunately the weather gods were to smile grandly and offer up the complete opposite for this years event. Leading into the week the southerly died away and the seas dropped off, by friday things were looking seriously good and from recent experiences fishing this area, the fishing had been even better so things were boding well for a great event.


The forecast, although offering up a gusty northwesterly whistling offshore, the seas couldn't have been better.


Saturday dawned fine and the seas lapped onto the shore with subdued restraint, like guilt had overcome them after last years serving. 220 rods registered and entered were in attendance at briefing ready to have crack at this years Moki. Once briefing was done and dusted all mannner of fishos were off to claim their ground from some 35km of coastline to catch that elusive Moki. The fishing was a little tough, but with baits in the water the fish were hooked and brought to shore.




All but one prize was caught by anglers, the remaining uncaught prize was drawn as a lucky draw prize.


A big congratulations to Eddie Szalkowski from WSAC for winning the Moki 1000 2012 and taking third prize also, proving that these guys are the local Moki gurus and the ones to beat.

The other fisherman that featured in the prizes was Kevin O'Connor from Pania SC who took out the 1st for Kahawai and second for the moki, we hope to see both of you back next year with more of your fellow club members.

Mark Roberts was everywhere with his camera taking shots before, during and after the competition. Mark has already uploaded the link with a few pics of his experiences, but those sorts of shots are what brings an event like this to life! Well done Mark for adding your take on things, hopefully you will add more pics soon and we hope to see you and your camera back next year.
