I've also been using a greater variety of baits, taking a few options each time. I'velooked at my bait presentation and improved this, but I seem to be plagued by good bites that don't hook up.
I always use circle hooks, between 2/0-4/0, and this has worked very well for me in the past. Generally most good bites have resulted in a hook up, but not of late. With this set up I would usually see a good hit, wait a few seconds, then see the rod keep bending, fish on. Should I be winding whenever there is a bite straight away?
I set my drag so that I can pull some line out, but wonder if I need to ease off on this?
Any thoughts would be much appreciated. I feel like I am doing a lot of the right things, variety of bait, good rigs, berley, getting out by 4am and putting in the hours, just wondering if there are any pearls of wisdom that might increase my odds (i'm in Wellington so I'm not expecting bin loads).
