Take Nothing For Granted
There are some interesting spots in the boundary. Lottin for obvious reasons is hard to look past, nice shot at good sized kings and there can be good snapper and trevs through that area at times. Allot of the wharfs along the east coast shouldn't be over looked, renowned for easy kingfish providing you have a decent gaff on a rope. Across the cape over at opotiki, this place possibly has the best snapper fishing for a surfcaster in the right conditions with a reasonable shot at 2-3kg plus snapper for those that don't mind getting wet or have a good set of waders. Maraenui-maraenui pa road, probably the most memorable beach along that stretch has it all, snapper close to the foul by day, snapper over the sand by night. Kingfish by the mouth, gurnard when the sea is nice, and of course, a few trevs from time to time. Just up around the corner, Omaio Bay, neat area, it can be a nursery at the best of times, but plenty of 5kg snapper have come in over the sand along with other species. Then of course there is the ever so popular whakaki, in a little bit of swell this place can produce some excellent snapper fishing.
So many options out there, very little time, best of luck, it looks like it will be a fantastic event for all those fishing and casting.
