Cant say if any of our ideas are of any use in Ireland. It would depend on the sharks they are after. Here are a couple of things we found out when pioneering this sport back in the 1970's and 80's.
Never use wire traces unless there is no hope with mono. Circle hooks and heavy mono or flourocarbon will get you twice as many bites (or more). What you can do with them after that is up to you.
Sharks can turn up anywhere. WE caught huge walers in the Waikato River well up from the rivermouth.( I am talking about 150kg + fish.)
We were told "Move along please" because we were scaring the swimmers at Maraitai Beach because of the size of the sharks we were catching.
Go for a flight over any surf beach in summer you will be amazed how many are close to home.
You need to be deadly serious when taking this sport on. Things can go wrong in an instant.
