The road closure is the work of the local trust in an attempt to get spinafax plantings established on the beach ( my understanding after some research today).

Hawke's Bay Regional Council access to the beach there is to let the lagoon go in times of high flows through the river system. We still have access for this purpose.

Apparently you can traverse the blocked road in a 4 wheel drive. However as it is a paper road if you wish to pursue the matter call the Wairoa District council. 06-8387309 working hours Monday through Friday.

We did not have any part in the closure.
