The weather looks fantastic, reports sound amazing, look forward to seeing you there.
Welcome to the only dedicated Blue Moki surfcasting competition in the country, started in 2011 this is set to become an annual event run by the Feilding Surfcasting Club every November, Blue Moki are a fantastic fighting fish that inhibit the waters of the Southern Wairarapa Coastline, if you are lucky enough to catch a big one they are considered the champion trophy fish of these waters.
Boundaries for WBS Moki $1000 are from Whangaimoana to Stone Wall Creek as marked on map, there will be Blue Drum Markers at both points to mark the boundary.
There is some amazing fishing to be had within site of the road, however a quad will get you around a little easier, so im told.
For those of you who have no idea, the best baits for moki are Mussels, crayfish, prawns, crabs and pipis. They don't usually eat normal baits like pilchards. Most supermarkets will sell green lip mussels and prawns, so thats a great start. Hooks are a personal preference, and everyone has different ideas, however I would recommend going with smaller hooks up to 3/0. Take plenty of sinkers, and a bit of a mixture as the coast line varies between rocks and sand.
This will be my first time at this event and it sounds like fun for the whole family.
Take care and drive safely.
