Go to 80lb supple trace like I have.Not all have worms but its normally a gut worm.If you gut them straight away they aren't a problem.If you leave them with gut in the worm thinks it needs to find a new host & eats his way out.Same worm the cod get down south island.
Very similar to Hake they smoke up very well also,Hake probably the best of all fish to smoke.
But good Puka or long line bait, high oil content.
Personally I love them smoked,that could be the way I smoke fish though.
