I'm in the Wairarapa.
Have not been using "heavy" rods (i.e. casting weight over 100gr).
My old 12' rod, rated to 90gr, I can cast 80m+ using a penn sql15 with 0.45mm mono with a 3oz weight and 2m of thick string in a lump to simulate bait. Will change to thin braid when delivered (on back order).
Listening to feedback and reading about the topic on lots of forums, I do realize I need to "play" a bit with heavier cast weights, so for now, I just picked up a cheap 14' rod that can cast up to 180gr. will use it for a while with OTG as I'm quite sure I will snap it if I load it with a pendulum cast.
Aiming for a new better rod at the end of the year. That will also give me time to check out the new Abu later in the year. (been using abu since before I could walk...)
Yet, on "paper" I really like the AFAW and CD rods.
cheers
