Hangler did you see the pics of stu Hasties boys with the rays in the Pandora POnd. You would have been impressed with their size. So there you are a xmas present for you, go and have a try there. The biggest I have encountered in Hawkes Bay were Pania Club Record caught at the "Drain" on Marine Parade at 108.8kgs and another I hooked and lost (thank goodness) at Arapauanui Rivermouth. That was a bigger one about the size of a full size billiard table but ended up working is way into the rocks where it broke the line. Good eagles are available south at Parangahou and other sandy beaches that way. Also in the area you are fishing where they seem to be quite thick.
Big Eagles jump and are great sport. This Est 45kgs.
