Good onya lads, well except for you Dunky, that is if you are really going to eat that scum sucker, yuk, yuk, yuk, you are joking I hope.See what I mean how the trawlers have their place too,I give them the evils when I see them fishing close to shore,as most surfcasters do,but hey in the last 7 weeks while not out fishing myself I still got to eat about 8 Hapuka steaks & 40 fillets of gurnard, with those poor guys out on cold crappy days, freezing their behinds off trying to earn a living, but putting fresh fish on the table for me & others who can't get out and get a feed for ourselves for what ever reason, but love to eat fish most days of the week where possible. Like I mentioned some time ago that I used to be a comercial fisherman 20 years ago in the South Island, and I still havn't forgot how dangerous, cold, and hard it can be to make a living from it."COLD I SAY" the wind coming off the southern alps was bone chilling,I had to hose the ice off the deck, and even when finally in the wheelhouse, would still be shuddering for 30 min or more."HARD I SAY" fishing all day then through the night then the day then the night etc' with little naps of a hour or so in between this may go on for 7 days or more till you load up if lucky, and if the fish are plentiful you only touch land long enough to unload re case & re ice and off you go again, you are on call 7 days a week 24hrs a day no stat days etc,so if you don't catch fish you don't get paid its that simple."DANGEROUS I SAY" well i don't think I have to explain that one to much, crushed limbs ,broken backs, etc and of course drowning,I myself have been caught in a storm, in huge seas a hundred miles from land in a 50 ft boat, chasing tuna,I also was in another storm of the WestPort Bar, as we went to the aid of other fisherman in deep trouble,as they had lost all power to their engines, cut a long story short we so nearly lost our lives in saving theirs."ALL THIS JUST TO PUT FISH ON THE TABLE." So anyway Dunky don't eat that scum sucking bastard red cod ya hear,go to H Bay seafoods and get $10 worth of fresh gurney fillets ok .I know buying fish dosn't sit well with alot of surf casters, some cause they don't like comercial boys, thats why I told that little story just so some may realise that the comercial boys risk failure as well as their lives to put fish in the shops.I for one will always try to catch my own,but will not hesitate to buy some fish should I only catch scum suckers . See you boys at meeting. Roge
