" Not For Me Dunky " Archived Message Posted by Roger (H Bay) on 3/7/2007, 11:36 pm "Red Cod",Not for me Dunky mate,But hey by all means try the "Spiny Dog Fish",we had a market for them 20yrs ago mate,they sold in fish & chip shops in CH CH,they are a comercial species from memory,have a look on the fishing charts in H Bay seafoods,they weren't hard to catch as you could amagine,we caught thousands of the mongrels,and sold them to fish shops,(THATS WHY IT ALWAYS PAYS TO ASK WHAT FISH THEY ARE COOKING) and check it when you recieve it,the variety is amazing in some shops,like Flounder,Blue moki,Hake,Lemon=(rig,or SSH) Cardinal,Dory=(not john )Deep sea cod,=( stargazer,or monk) wharehou,Trevally,School shark =(grey boy or tope)Hoki, These are just some of the answers given to me,and I all ways ended up saying no thanks and got them to cook me Gurney,Puka or Tarakihi, if they had it or I would just go to some other shop.Hence the check to make sure they didn't try and pull a fast one and slip me Cardinal etc .Any way some of the boardies have possibly eaten Spiny Dog with out even knowing it ,its has a milky looking flesh from memory (Creamy you might say) You go for it Dunky and I'm sure some boardies may be interested in your comments on the taste.
